Woodhenge - Custom Swing Set

Welcome to Woodhenge! This custom swing set was designed, built and installed with salvaged Eucalyptus logs.

It all started when a client asked Barbara to design a custom play structure for his Tiburon home overlooking the north bay. The client knew they wanted to incorporate rustic logs into the design and create a play structure that would bring the movement of nature into their sleek, modern yard.

Barbara quickly set to work designing a structure that would use large logs as the primary framing and include fun play accessories.

The landscape architect for the project learned that the Richmond Country Club had to remove several large eucalyptus trees, so Barbara visited the site and tagged her favorite 12 logs for the project. We soon found our shop home to a dozen large logs. Barbara cataloged and studied the logs to determine which log went where in the design. The crew striped the bark from the logs and grinded them smooth in preparation for installation.

The finished logs were craned onto the truck, ready for delivery to site!

Getting the logs to the final site was a challenge. A type of portable crane called a spyder crane was used to move the logs and set them in place.

Our fantastic crew, along with Barbara’s nephew Sean, did an amazing job of prepping the logs and site.

Barbara worked with a longtime associate engineer to construct the swing set and attach the logs to the ground with custom made metal brackets.
