Odyssey Log

Odyssey’s focal point is a massive log serving as a bridge from one section of the structure to another. The first step is for Jeff to safely transport it to our shop in South San Francisco from a mill in the Santa Cruz mountains.

Getting it set up on our loading dock is a team effort.

The key to simplifying the installation process is precise measurements. This log will need to be cut at the perfect angle to fit in with the other components of the structure and into the layout of the client’s yard. Here, Barbara and Colin use a laser level to get it just right. As the old saying goes, “Measure twice, cut once!”

As Colin cuts the log with a chainsaw, it generates quite the bark and dust storm. Good thing we’re always masked up anyway these days!

This giant tree trunk is fitting in perfectly to its new home. Next week, we’ll dig into the installation process for this unique project. Stay tuned!
