our oil-based stains are best for outdoor use.

We grind the pigment in top quality tung oil and thin it with top quality solvent to make a stain that absorbs into the wood, as opposed to paint which is a film on top of the wood. 

We recommend it for exterior projects mostly because the tung oil odor, while not toxic, can bother people. 

Our stains are rated hazardous in liquid form because of the solvent. You wouldn’t want a child to accidentally drink it. As the stains dry, the solvent evaporates. Once dry, the stain is no longer rated as toxic.
