Making Surf Shack

Surf Shack celebrates this family’s love of surfing and the ocean, complete with sea creature shutters and decorative surf boards. The elevated playhouse is surrounded by a deck and hand-lashed rope netting railing, adding to the nautical feel.

The beautiful hues were inspired by the ocean and the client’s birdhouse, seen above. Like all of our backyard projects, the family has the chance to customize the color palette and choose the colors that most speak to them.

The structure is first fabricated in our shop for maximum efficiency. Using sustainably harvested redwood lumber, the walls and deck are carefully crafted.

Once the walls are set up, we add the roof. Here, Jose makes sure the roof is a perfect fit during the detailing stage.

Before covering the roof, Marco and Colin lay out the cedar shingles to ensure that the seams are properly staggered and waterproof. Stay tuned for more Surf Shack pics soon!
