Sliding Concrete at Oakland Hills Ramble
A steep and winding backyard doesn’t just pose a design challenge; the installation can be tricky as well! The first thing we needed to do was hand dig the footings for the redwood posts (clad in metal protective sleeves). Next up: pouring concrete into each to ensure a safe and secure structure. But how do you get 200 bags of concrete that each weigh 60 pounds down a steep slope?
Barbara’s creative solution was to make a slide for the concrete to go down. The bags were first brought to the driveway using dollies.
Then, they were loaded onto a slide made of cardboard coated in a slick material that wound its way down along the path of the play structure. Bags were offloaded at various points as they reached their destinations. To really get a sense of how it works, check out the two videos below:
