Oakland Hills Ramble Design

Creating a playful haven on a steep hillside backyard requires creativity, skill, and teamwork. The first step is working with the family to transform their wishlist into a structure that is aesthetically cohesive, structurally sound, and also fun! Barbara’s artist sketch helps everyone visualize how the final project will look.

On a more technical level, a detailed plan is a crucial part of bringing this structure to life. Here you can see how the three bridges, two towers, and a clubhouse come together into a sprawling play zone that also includes swings, a climbing wall, and monkey bars.

How will the colors in the artist’s sketch translate into actual stained lumber? Check out our dyed wood samples to find out!

To get the precise measurements needed to fabricate each part of this structure in our shop before coming back on-site to install, Barbara has created a unique system she calls the “stick-out.” The stick-out is like a 3D sketch that outlines where the final structure will go and further helps families visualize how the project will look upon completion.

With this method, each ripple of the steep slope is taken into account, allowing each component to be custom-fit to the environment it will live in. Stay tuned for our next blog on Barbara’s creative solution to carting materials down this long and extreme incline!
