A Day in the Life of the Artist/Builder

The life of an artist/builder is part work, part play and 100% creative activity. Barbara’s workday begins at the shop, where she confers with the various members of her team and moves each project ahead.

Each person is working on a different aspect of bringing the Pasadena Treehouse to life: Jose Luis builds a toy box while David pilots wooden stops for the doors. Kat and Fernando add color using our natural tung-oil stain, Rudi, our master stain creator, works on the formulas for new colors and Moises wields the grinder, making everything smooth and round.

The walls for the Pasadena Treehouse are stained and ready to go. Like all our custom structures, they will be assembled on-site.

Now the artist/builder is ready to hit the road. Barbara heads out for a lunch meeting with David Cattivera, the Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Peninsula to debrief on this summer’s Dreams Happen Gala & Playhouse Auction and look ahead to the 2017 event. Though this year was wildly successful (and our donation The Play’s the Thing was the highest grossing play structure this year), we are always looking for ways to improve!

After lunch, Barbara and David head over to Magical Bridge Playground to look around and check out our newly installed bench (see first photo). Build, create, connect; it’s all in a day’s work for the artist/builder.
